Not much charm

Our stay at the Mekong Charm guesthouse was frustrating mainly because I've had such good experiences in guesthouses in Laos. Friends arrived the evening before and were horrified at the room they were given behind the "reception" (a desk with a laptop) that smelled of mold. When my husband and I arrived the following evening there was a young man who seemed not to understand why we were there. It was not at all clear that he was a staff member since he didn’t seem to understand English, nor did he say anything when I showed him the Agoda booking ID. He eventually found us a key and wandered upstairs. It took him several minutes to figure out how to turn on the lights. We had booked a double room with a Mekong view and a bathtub. We were given a family room crowded with 3 beds, one blocking most of the floor. For $90 a night (we paid in advance for 4 nights) and NO BREAKFAST we felt completely ripped off. We have stayed in Luang Prabang before and at both guesthouses breakfast was included, the service was better and the rates were half or less what we paid for the Mekong Charm. The second day another young guy with better English sadly acknowledged they had given away our double room. He moved us the next day so we spent the last two nights in a much nicer double room, with a view. The noise level was really unacceptable for what is supposed to be the “quiet” side of the peninsula. The incompetence of the staff is not their fault - this is the owner's responsibility to make sure the staff is trained. No one ever asked for our passports, nor did they ever find our reservation. The guesthouse is a beautiful property that desparately needs better staff training and an organized reservation system comprehensible to the staff. A simple self-serve breakfast would go a long way to make the high room rate palatable. Until improvements are made I cannot recommend staying at the Mekong Charm.

très mauvais rapport qualité prix

A l'arrivée, nous avons été mis dans une chambre rez de chaussée très sombre, sentant le moisi. Après protestation, une chambre du 1er étage nous a été attribuée, avec vue sur un immeuble en construction situé à 1 mètre de la fenêtre. Le gérant de l'établissement était manifestement absent, et n'a pas jugé utile de se déplacer lorsque nous avons exprimé notre mécontentement. L'établissement partait à vau l'eau: poussière sur les meubles, nombre de serviettes insuffisants, PQ non renouvelé, pas de bouteilles d'eau dans la salle de bain etc. A noter pour couronner le tout que bien que présenté sous la catégorie "Bed and breakfast", il n'est pas possible d'y prendre son petit-déjeuner!déjeuner!
